"I did 50,000 lei in sales this month" sounds good and says almost nothing. Between the number on your sales report and the money that actually lands in your account, a lot slips through: category commission, shipping costs, maybe a Fulfilled By fee, ad spend β and, since April 2026, one more new line: the operational services fee.
The new operational services fee (from April 2026)
Since April 1, 2026, eMAG has applied an extra 1% fee on the order value to every order on the platform, with a floor and a cap:
- Minimum 1.49 lei (VAT included) β applies to every low-value order regardless.
- Maximum 3.99 lei (VAT included) β the cap for large orders.
In practice, for orders between roughly 149 and 399 lei, the fee comes out to exactly 1% of value. Below 149 lei, the 1.49 lei floor pushes the effective rate above 1% β which hits sellers of cheap products with lots of small orders disproportionately hard. Above 399 lei, the 3.99 lei cap pulls the effective rate below 1%.
What this looks like, at scale, for a real seller
As an order of magnitude β not an exact prediction for your business, which depends on your product mix β the yearly impact looks roughly like this:
| Seller profile | Volume | Estimated annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 50 orders/month, avg 150 lei | ~900 lei/year |
| Medium | 500 orders/month, avg 300 lei | ~18,000 lei/year |
| Large | 5,000 orders/month, avg 250 lei | ~150,000 lei/year |
The rest of the fees stacking on top
The 1% fee is just the latest line item β not the only one. On top of it, as usual, you have:
- Category commission, which varies significantly by product type.
- Payment processing costs, if you sell with online payment.
- Logistics and storage costs, especially if you use a fulfillment service.
- Ad spend, which never shows up in eMAG's commission but comes straight out of profit.
- The cost of returns β see our article on lowering your return rate for real numbers.
Why your sales report is actually lying to you
None of the costs above show up in a standard gross sales report. The result: two sellers with the same revenue can end up with completely different profits, and the gap only becomes visible if someone sits down and subtracts every commission, ad cost, and return from revenue, product by product β by hand, in a spreadsheet, month after month.
In the short term that feels manageable. In the long term, it's why so many sellers grow their sales year after year while feeling like "nothing's left" β because the real margin has been quietly shrinking, and no one noticed exactly when.
